African child: subsisting on promises
The obligations are reflected in the universally ratified Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC). The promises are found in national policies, including the National Plans of Action for Children and the Declarations of the 1990 World Summit for Children, the 1992 GAU International Conference on Assistance to African Children (ICAAC), the 2000 Millennium Summit, the 2002 UN Special Session on Children and the African Common Position which preceded it. The promises and the country goals and targets which took them further have been largely consistent over the last one and a half decade. There is little argument about what needs to be done. Felon charged with child molesting
NEW CASTLE -- Nearly 15 years after he was convicted of trying to kill a teenager, a Henry County man has been charged with sexually abusing a child. John W. Perdue, 43, most recently of 414 N. Market St., Lewisville, is charged with two counts of child molesting, one a class A felony carrying a standard 30-year prison term and the other a class C felony with a standard four-year sentence. .

OLPC Nepal aims at providing one Laptop to every Nepali Child
One Laptop Per Child Nepal (OLPC Nepal), a group of Nepali engineers, educators, and social entrepreneurs have urged all to assist in its aim of providing one Laptop computer to every child. A press statement issued by the OLPC Nepal said the core of this initiative is an inexpensive, durable, and highly power-efficient laptop as a learning tool to children. "This will allow children, teachers and parents to engage in hands-on learning activities previously only available to students in the richest of countries," it said. However, the statement further said, accomplishing this goal requires cooperation and collaboration of the government, international community, teachers, students, and grassroots organisations. The statement further said that OLPC Nepal works in close collaboration with global OLPC movement that was started in 2005 by a group of faculty members from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US.
