Awards top comeback year for former child star
SAN FRANCISCO Movie fans used to know Jackie Earle Haley mostly for playing Kelly Leak. He was the motorcycle-riding Little Leaguer from the original 1976 version of "The Bad News Bears." Now, with multiple awards for his performance as the sex offender Ronnie in the 2006 Golden Globe-nominated "Little Children," Earle's career has reignited after nearly 15 years away from acting. Haley's now 45. He tells the San Francisco Chronicle that by the time he was 30, he was delivering pizzas and taking small guest spots on T-V shows. So he dropped out of acting entirely. Haley went on to start a successful business directing commercials in San Antonio. He married and was honeymooning in France in 2004 when he got the phone call that changed everything. Haley was asked to audition for director Steven Zaillian's 2006 remake of "All the King's Men." He got the part.

Get paid to send child to school on a bike
PARENTS could be paid to get their children to cycle to school rather than take the bus under new plans to help tackle obesity. The Government has said the proposals will improve school transport, cut congestion and encourage children to lead more active lives. The news comes days after figures revealed a quarter of four and five-year-olds in Bolton and almost 30 per cent of 10 and 11-year-olds are were obese or overweight. .
